Back to school nails!

I felt like I couldn’t walk into my first day of nail school with naked nails or ugly polish on, so I did a quick no chip the night before. I decided on a bright summery purple with a simple glitter accent nail.

Gel Polishes Used:

Finger Paints “Main Art-Traction”
ASP “Studio 54”

Finger Paints “Lots of Luau”

I can never pass up the clearance bins at Sally’s (or anywhere that has nail polish!) and this color was one of those purchases. How cool is this lime green packed with glitter though?

Here I cheated a little bit; I didn’t really feel like taking the time to put on a whole new set of acrylics but my nails were super short, so I just used glue on full nails and filed them to the shape I wanted. Shown here is two coats of “Lots of Luau”.

French Tips and No Chips

The next couple class in school we learned techniques to achieve a perfect smile line for a french tip, and proper prep and application of a no chip manicure.

We were almost ready to start taking clients! I love that we get lots of practice on real people at the school before I have to do it as my job! Especially with the cuticle care.

Throwback Thursday: Neons done with my left hand!

I’m mostly right handed, and in this case I smudged my left hand so I decided to take a picture of my right hand without cleaning up to show how much I’d progressed in doing nails ambidextrously.

The great thing is, since this I’ve gotten even better at painting with my left, hand, I’ll have to post another right hand picture soon!

First try: sharpie nails!

I’ve been seeing this technique a bunch lately, and it looks super cool. I’m not sure if mine didn’t work that well because I didn’t let the nail polish dry enough before coloring on it with the sharpie, or if it’s because I use regular nail polish not gel or acrylic, but oh well, you only learn by trying things!

The end result reminds me of watercolor paints, so I still think they look neat, just not as cool as the ones I’ve seen. I used white polish as the base, then colored random parts of the nail with different colors, then used a nail brush dipped in rubbing alcohol to mush the sharpie colors around.

Polish used:

Sinful Colors “White on White”

Rainbow neon hat

I really like making hats as they’re easy and quick! I’ve been working on just trying to use up my stash of yarn, and quick projects are good for that.

I’m hoping eventually to a bunch of stuff done and ready to sell, and maybe to have a booth at craft fairs or something. We’ll see, in the meantime, I gotta make enough stuff to be able to do that or have an Etsy store worth anything!
